#mondayinspiration || 10 Life Lessons From 'The Internship'

Long time no movie post! Yeah, I know, I've also missed it. The last time there was a movie post was sometime in January where we shared life lessons from 2 broke girls  , if you haven't read that post, you definitely should check it out!

'The internship' is also one of my favourite movies of all time and I can't even count the number of times I've seen it. Last night I saw it again, and this time I wasn't just laughing, (yes it's very hilarious) but I was taking notes on some valuable lessons which I'll be sharing with you today.

I hope your weekend was well spent? Mine was too short! 😝

Let's get to it...

1) Don't Let The Close of One Door Keep You From Opening Another: Sometimes, when life hands us lemons, we're so focused on the sour taste that we forget that we can make a lemonade drink out of it. Billy and Nick lost their job but didn't let that deter them from looking for another job with Google. They had no idea at all what they were doing but they took a chance and knocked on that door which was eventually opened for them.

2) Don't Be Afraid To Go After What You Want: An internship with Google seems like something that is almost impossible, I mean it's Google Yo! But these guys took a leap and went for it! They weren't even as qualified as most of the other young interns,  call it luck, grace, whatever you want, it won't happen if you dont go after what you want. Some of us have the opportunities to pitch ourselves to the brand/companies/organisations that will help our careers, but we feel inferior and believe that that place is a no-go area so we just sit still without trying. I mean the worst that can happen is NO! These guys did their interview and they were ranting nonsense throughout! Have some belief in your self and go for it.

3) Never Say Never: After pushing through and trying your best, it's time to have a little faith that everything will work out just fine. You never know what they might have seen in you and decide to give you a chance, so whether you feel you're qualified for that job or not, just give it your best and hope for the best.

Side Note: God is not a God of protocols,  in fact he breaks them, that's all you need to hold on to.

4) Pay No Attention To Negative Thoughts: To get to any height in life, you need to get rid of negative thoughts because they will only slow you down or even stagnate you. Positive thoughts all day, everyday.

5) Use Every Criticism To Your Own Advantage: As the oldest guy in their team, possibly in the whole internship program, Billy and Nick got criticised a lot. They were called several names, and it didn't even help that they had no prior knowledge of computer programming. They took all of these criticisms and made up their minds to prove their critics wrong and come out successful. You guessed right they did.

6) Don't Give Up: I know you've heard this a million times, but persistence and consistency really pays at the end of the day. You can come this far, only to come this far. You need to keep going and you can be rest assured that where your strength stops, grace will help continue, just don't give up.

7) Be a Good Team Player: In different stages of your life, you're going to belong to a team. Now it's left for you to either become an active or a dormant member for that team. I once saw this quote on my dad's office wall and it read;

T: Together
E: Everyone
A: Achieves
M: More

This is exactly what a team is supposed to be all about. Don't say everyone has got it, while you sit idly and allow them do all the work. Even though half the time, Our two favourite interns had no idea what was going on, they didn't form boss or play the age card so that they get a pass, they worked like the rest of the team and their ideas helped at the end.

8) Invest in Some Wise Older Friends: Most times, they put you through, so that you don't make the same mistakes they made,  and give you words that will lift your spirits. I am of the opinion that we all need some older friends or 'mentor figure' in our lives that we can go to for motivation or inspiration when we need it.

9) Have Fun: While you're out there conquering the world, don't forget to leave some time for rest and fun. Don't get all caught up chasing your dream that you forget to have a life outside work. Sometimes, it helps to calm your nerves that now in turn help you come up with fresh ideas. So don't forget to have fun!

10) Wherever You Find Yourself, So Your Best And Don't Give Anybody A Reason To Doubt Your Capability.

There you have it guys!

Over to You...

Have you seen the movie 'The internship'? What lesson(s) did you learn from it? I would love to know.

Have a fruitful week ahead!
